Gemma & Mark

Formby Hall

Their big day was the perfect way to end my wedding season for 2019, it simply did not disappoint. They were both smiling for ear to ear all day and it was infectious! Everything from the colours to the details made this a cozy winter wonderland.

How did your partner propose?

We went to New York in January 2019 and was walking through Central Park towards the Ice skating rink, when Mark stopped on Gapstow Bridge got down on one knee and asked me to marry him with a beautiful engagement ring💍. We then went on to Ice skate around and the song Perfect by Ed Sheeran was playing (our song anyway). Best holiday ever, plus a dream come true of mine.

Why did you choose St Johns and Formby Hall?

We chose the local, St Johns church for the service as that’s where my mum and dad got married and my sister, so it was sentimental to me. Plus we both loved Formby Hall for the reception as the room was so spacious and can be well presented.

Tell me about your wedding vision, your theme, flowers, colours etc...

We planned the wedding rather quickly to be honest as engaged in the January we booked it for November 30th 2019. So went for the idea of a fairy tale in New York themed reception as it was winter and where we got engaged. The colour scheme was navy suits and burgundy as I thought it was apt for a winters wedding. The flowers was done by the lovely cath at the Garden Rooms in Churchtown, I used to work with Cath and loved the way her flowers are wild but beautiful so she excelled herself with our flowers even down to the ribbon to match the dresses.

What was your first dance choice and why?

Always loved the song perfect by Ed Sheeran as it was special for us both and when we heard it playing in Central Park after we got engaged it had to be that song!!

Tell me about your wedding dress...

I went shopping with my mum for wedding dress ideas on Valentine’s Day 2019 and went to Wed 2 B in Liverpool and was blown away by all the different dresses there was. I was very open minded with dresses etc and the lady herself in the shop said there is a dress she wanted me to try on, so I put it on and instantly loved it, it was so simple but looked elegant at the same time so walked away the same day with the dress like 3 weeks after we got engaged haha!

What was your favourite part of parts of the day?

We honestly loved every single second of the day and was an blessed that for a November wedding the weather was so nice even though it was cold. I was so happy with the way the whole wedding came together and it all looked so perfect. Even the small parts like my veil getting stuck down the aisle🙈 and the car not starting all added to the day and by the time it was the last dance we had the best day ever and didn’t stop laughing and smiling with all our family and friends and that’s what we wanted.

Do you have any advice for future couples, who are planning their big day?

We were very laid back, as a couple getting married and just rolled with it, I was lucky that mark as a groom was involved too and he came to every appointment with the venue etc with me which helped us enjoy the build up together. We loved the whole whirlwind 9 months of planning, and when the day was here it was just perfect!!
