Sefton Park Palm House Wedding Photography

If you have never been to Sefton Park, you would of never come across The Palm House, a Grade 2 listed, iconic Victorian domed Glasshouse, surrounded by acres of parkland. A stunning building and a tropical, botanical oasis in Liverpool. So, when Bex & Sam booked me for their special day, I was so excited to return back to this iconic beauty.

Bex & Sam's colourful, tropical wedding was the summer vibe I needed. On a very sunny and ridiculously hot day in June, this absolute sweetheart of a pair threw a celebration to remember. Here is what they had to say about their fabulous day...

What made you choose your wedding venue?

We looked at quite a few venues, and thought we knew what we were looking for. We'd seen the Palm house online and didn't think it would work because of the practicalities of getting there, where could everyone stay, where could the bridal party get ready, etc. Then we went to a wedding open night there on a whim and threw all those concerns out the window because it was just so beautiful and felt so right for us. We renovated our own Victorian house and love the style of that era, we love plants and greenery obviously, and we have lived and worked in Liverpool and love the city so we felt we had a bit of a connection in lots of ways. Plus when you walk in you can't help but get a wow moment. It's an incredible venue.

Tell me about your theme, colours and/or style for the day.

We just knew we wanted lots of bold bright colours to pop against the greenery. I sent Zayna (from Zaz events) and Anna from Mary Mary florals a picture of the back of Sam's waistcoat which had a gorgeous floral pattern and they ran with it for the whole setup with the candles and flowers, and napkins on the tables. In the end it all looked totally mad but we loved it.

What was your favourite moments/memories of the day?

It was all incredible! I could go on and on but a few highlights: Arriving at the venue and peeking through the leaves to see everyone milling and taking their seats and getting that 'OK it's really happening now' feeling! And walking down the aisle with my lovely Dad towards Sam was so emotional for me, everything hits you because you see all your guests are there and all the venue dressed up with all the lovely details we planned. It was overwhelming and I had to fight back tears. I also loved sitting at the top table during dinner and just surveying the scene, I just have never seen anywhere look more beautiful, the sun was streaming through the glass and everyone we loved was there dressed up in their finery and chatting away like they all knew each other.. and all the amazing colours of the flowers and table decorations ... it was better than anything I'd dreamed of come true.

Any tips or advice for future couples planning their special day?

There's such a huge amount of options and choices to decide on and you never know quite how it's going to turn out on the day which can be so stressful and I did a lot of doubting myself. My best advice is to try and go off recommendations for your suppliers, make decisions and stick with them, and trust that everyone knows what they're doing which they do way better than you 🤣

A few words about Lynette Matthews Photography

Where do we start with Lynette!! We count our lucky stars we met her at Formby hall wedding open day! She is just so lovely and so funny you cant help but smile! We had an 'engagement shoot' on Southport pier about 6 months before the wedding and even though both of us are quite camera shy there was just no awkwardness at all and she got us both laughing and at ease and we got some really cute photos which we used on our our wedding invitations. She is such a master of her art and the backgrounds are always dreamy.

Ahead of the wedding we had a planning meeting (extremely helpful!) And reminded us of a couple of things we'd forgotten to do. On the wedding day she blew our minds, she was just such a pro, she worked so hard and rounding up our family for group photos is no mean feat but she just bellowed out names like nobody's business.

We LOVED our sneak peek a couple of days after the wedding!!! I cried my eyes out to see them for the first time.

She hand delivered our pen drive of photos one evening with some choccies and the cutest handwritten message ever. We also loved the online gallery so we could easily share with our parents and friends. She did some cool edits as well like taking the DJ out of my aisle shot (sorry Paul from wedding Jam). She is simply the best!!!
